Moblog #2 – Airport Stories

Posted in Uncategorized on June 18th, 2009

So here I am, standing in Heathrow Airport waiting for the rest of Swami to check in, and I begin to think about all the humorous airport and plane experiences we’ve shared as a band, and on my own too!

I’m gonna share a couple of anecdotes with you today :)

The first one comes from the Swami tour of India in 2007. We were on a Kingfisher Airlines flight from Delhi to Hyderabad (the only airline in the world sponsored by a beer company?) and got to our seats when we noticed something hilarious. A little perspective first – I’m mixed race, half Indian (Punjabi), but on my mothers site, so I have an English surname. Liana from the band is English with Irish roots and our manager Luc is French. When we got to our seats, me, Liana and Luc were sat together, and there were 2 white tourists in the same row…..and the rest of the plane was Indians!! So they had put all the people with non-Indian names together! Here’s the best part – this was obviously standard practice on this airline, so when the staff/crew walked past, they saw all the white folks, and then me sat with them! (Although I’m half English, my skin tone and features are clearly not “white”). So they were all looking at me with confused expressions! It was hilarious!

The second story I’ll share today is from when I flew to LA with DJ Semtex and his producer Julie to make the 2Pac documentary for BBC 1xtra. Myself and Julie were in the queue to board the plane, when her phone beeps. She pulls out her phone and has gotten a text from Sem, and loudly exclaims, right in the middle of the airport, “Oh! Semtex is on the plane!”. After she said it she realized how that sounded to everyone else!!! (For those who might not know – Semtex is a type of plastic explosive!)

Haha….

Anyway, flights about to take off, so I’m outty!

Peace!!

Moblog #1

One of my favorite things about the current generation of technology we’re in is the easy access it provides from wherever you may be. I love that I can snap a photo on my phone and have it instantly appear on my website and whichever social networks I may use in no more than a couple of clicks, or instantly make a Twitter update the moment of something happening. (Plus my Twitter and Facebook status are synced).

So since I recently started this blog, I’m excited for the possibilities this too provides. Right now I’m in a cab on my way home after a long day out, writing this post on my blog’s backend server itself – I could also update it via email or using specific applications created for the purpose, but it’s not even necessary to do that. I can access all the same features from my phone’s browser as if I were at home sitting in front of my computer. So this is an introduction, or the first in a series of moblogs – updates I make from the road. Cause sometimes, a hazy recollection just ain’t gonna cut it. Reading about something while the moment is still happening is far more interesting, and I’m sure I’m not the only one that thinks that.

So for you valued fans and readers, you can start to expect some seriously random moblogs from now on. I might be sitting backstage before a show and feel like I have something worth sharing with you guys. We might be on a tour bus in any city you can name. We might be attempting to get into a big festival where we’re scheduled to play, only to get diverted into a muddy field because of the bad weather, and end up parked next to and having random conversations with Elvis Costello, porkpie hat and all. (Now that was a surreal moment…)

Point is, history isn’t remembered, twisted around to suit, information changed and THEN written down for future generations any more. That day is fucking done, and good riddance. It’s all about now. You can be a part of it just by sitting back and watching as the events unfold….right in front of your eyes. Peace out my neofunk souljas. S
